❇ TOYOTA (CO-OP)

enhancing dealership operations with effortless fleet management

Toyota is a client that I worked with at my previous co-op (Invoke Co.) and we have collaborated on a wide range of different projects. In this project, my team and I worked closely with Dolan Toyota to create visual artifacts for their fleet management system. The focus was to update their current ordering system, adhering to the admins request of creating an efficient and aesthetic experience.

Design Problem

The existing fleet management system has outdated UI and new admins find it difficult to learn. Setting order limits on vehicles and viewing existing limits are unintuitive in the existing UI.

HOW MIGHT WE

design a more intuitive fleet management system that empowers new administrators to efficiently manage vehicle order limits?

Original Fleet Management System

From an initial look, the original fleet management system has outdated visuals, inconsistent hierarchy, and poor usability. This causes cognitive overload and lacks clear visual affordances for key actions, such as creating a new rule.

Opportunities for Improvement

The opportunity allows for us to introduce visual hierarchy and modern design patterns (ex. clear navigation and buttons, and toggles) to identify and manage series of vehicles with rules applied to them.

Transforming complex ideas into actionable designs

After gaining a more clear understanding of how their order limiter system worked, the senior product designer and I conducted a workshop to brainstorm solutions, refine ideas, and align on the design direction for the project. During the workshop, we took an idea that initially seemed complex and broke it down into simplified sketches, making it more manageable and easier to visualize.

Lo-fidelity Wireframes

The visuals on the whiteboard clearly communicated the design vision of how we wanted to use a table to organize the different rules of each series of vehicles. By doing so, this enabled us to explore multiple design solutions and wrinkle out any kinks before moving on to a more detailed prototype.

Version 1 Wireframe

I decided to create a table view that lists all the vehicles with a limit applied. This approach allows the admin to see all the models and series at once, aligning with their goal of maintaining efficiency. Adding expandable rows allow admins to preview rule details without navigating away from the table.

Client Meeting

During our client meetings, our team at Invoke and the Toyota team, two developers and two project leads, synced up to discuss the designs that we've created and gave them time to discuss and provide feedback.

Final Deliverable

The client prioritized efficiency when using the order limiter system, which was an important constraint to consider. Reducing the number of clicks and pages the admin has to navigate was essential, provided that the necessary information is presented clearly.
